The NYU Winthrop Hospital Sports Medicine program provides orthopedic diagnoses, treatment and rehabilitation for a wide range of injuries to help get athletes back on track safely and quickly. Board certified physicians, certified athletic trainers and physical therapists comprise the team that provides superior, compassionate and coordinated care. Renowned for its expertise and exceptional skill, the program is open to patients of all ages from young students to senior athletes.
The Sports Medicine program, now in its sixth year, supports local teams including the Long Island Rough Riders, Adelphi University and 16 public schools. Athletic trainers provide practice and game coverage along with conditioning regimens for all types of student-athletes to complement at-home rehabilitation programs prescribed by physicians.
NYU Winthrop's Orthopedics team offers weekly office hours so doctors can follow up with patients and assess any new issues. Highly-skilled surgeons who specialize in sports medicine are available if necessary and certified physical therapists assist in prompt recovery.
The NYU Winthrop Concussion Clinic is another vital resource to effectively diagnose, treat and manage athletic injuries. The Clinic uses a multidisciplinary approach with an integrated team of sports medicine physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, neurologists and psychologists to get patients safely back to their routines.
Sports Community Outreach Educational (SCORE) Programs are also available featuring the latest information on concussion awareness, injury prevention and achieving optimal performance. Continuing education opportunities are offered for athletic trainers and various health professions and the team will host their 4th Annual NYU Winthrop Sports Medicine Symposium in June 2018.
