Emergency Department Renovation & Expansion
There's a whole lotta changing goin' on... in Winthrop's Emergency Department, that is. The on-going $6.6 million renovation project is still moving forward with the addition of a new emergency room waiting area, complete with a giant aquarium filled with colorful saltwater fish. The ultra-modern waiting area now includes a private and expanded triage and registration area, allowing for increased interaction between the emergency staff and patients. The Department also boasts a new, separate pediatric waiting area to cater to the needs of younger patients and their families.
Winthrop also proudly announces the opening of a new, dedicated Pediatric Emergency Unit, designed to meet the emotional and physical emergency needs of children and their families. This separate 4500 square foot suite, featuring its own entrance so children are not exposed to adults patients in the Emergency Department, includes 10 pediatric beds and two isolation rooms. Dedicated, experienced Pediatricians board certified in pediatric critical care or pediatric emergency medicine; pediatric nurses; technicians and support staff are available 24 hours/seven days-a-week. They are committed to providing the highest-quality care to children!
Radiation Oncology Center
Winthrop's new Radiation Oncology Center is one of the most advanced
outpatient treatment facilities of its kind in the region, equipped with
state-of-the-art technology and the most targeted and powerful radiation
therapy. The use of highly sophisticated Intensity Modulated Radiation
Therapy (IMRT) coupled with one of the most advanced CT simulators used for
treatment planning, provides patients with a "one-two punch" in the fight
against a wide range of cancers.
Neurological Intensive Care Unit
Winthrop's new Neurological Intensive Care Unit is dedicated to saving a
patient's quality of life through the most advanced and comprehensive
techniques for monitoring brain activity in individuals who have suffered
brain trauma from a stroke, aneurysm or debilitating head injury. The unit's
advanced technology, including the Doppler system, which monitors blood flow
through the brain, along with special EEG monitors and intercranial pressure
monitoring devices, allows physicians to make quick and accurate decisions
to secure the best possible outcome. Staffed by highly skilled physicians
and nurses specially trained in the care of neurological disorders, all
needs are met with the highest level of patient care.
Breast Imaging & Diagnostic Suite
Referred to as a "one stop shop" for optimal breast health, Winthrop's
Breast Imaging & Diagnostic Suite caters to the specialized needs of this
region's women, combining comprehensive screenings with diagnostic
procedures in the technologically sophisticated facility. With breast cancer
being the second leading cause of cancer death in women, Winthrop's Breast
Imaging & Diagnostic Suite provides all of the necessary tools, from
preventative screenings to follow-up care, to help prevent breast disease.
PET Imaging Center
Positron Emission Tomography (PET), one of the most powerful imaging
technologies available, is revolutionizing the diagnosis of many types of
cancer as well as neurological and cardiovascular diseases. Unlike other
imaging techniques including X-ray, MRI and CT scans, PET scans have the
ability to focus on the entire body, identifying and even staging
malignancies as well as localizing sites of seizures in neurological
patients and detecting coronary artery disease.
